Hytale server game modes explained

Survival, SMP, Prison, Skyblock, Factions and the rest, in plain words.

Servers on this list pick up to four game modes. Here is what each one usually means, so you can tell at a glance whether a server is for you. Every server runs its modes a little differently, so read its page for the details.

Survival

Gather resources, craft tools, build a base and stay alive. Survival is the closest to the normal Hytale experience, often with extras like land claims, an economy or custom bosses.

SMP

Short for "survival multiplayer". SMP servers are usually smaller, close-knit survival worlds where the community matters as much as the game. Expect shared projects, towns, and players who know each other.

Prison

You start at the lowest rank in a prison. You mine blocks, sell them for money, and buy your way up through the ranks to bigger and better mines. Most prison servers add upgrades, gangs and a "prestige" system that lets you start again for permanent bonuses.

PvP

Player versus player. Fighting other players is the main point, whether in arenas, duels or an open world. Good PvP servers have fair rules and protection for new players.

Factions

Players form teams, claim land and build bases. Then they raid each other for loot and territory. Factions mixes survival, base building and PvP, and rewards teamwork and planning.

Skyblock

You start on a tiny island floating in the sky, with very few resources. You grow it piece by piece into a large base. Skyblock is about careful planning and steady progress, and usually plays well solo or with a few friends.

Roleplay

Players take on characters and act out stories together, often with jobs, towns, lore and events. Roleplay servers usually have stricter rules about staying in character.

Minigames

A hub with many short games: races, team battles, parkour, and party games. Good if you want quick rounds instead of a long-term world.

Creative

Unlimited blocks and no danger. Creative servers give you a plot to build on and often hold building contests.

Adventure

Hand-built maps, quests and dungeons, played like a story. Adventure servers focus on exploring and finishing content rather than building.

Tags

Besides game modes, servers can add tags like "Economy", "Hardcore" or "PvE". Tags describe the server's style in more detail, and you can search for them.
